A woman was losing at the roulette wheel at a casino in Atlantic City. When she was down to her last 10 dollars, she asked the fellow next to her for a good number in a desperate effort to change her situation. “Why don’t you play your age?” he casually suggested.
The next thing he knew, the woman had fainted and fallen to the floor. “She won big by following my advice and fainted from overwhelming joy!” he thought immediately. He rushed to the scene, and asked the attendant if she had won. But, with a mystified look on his face, the attendant replied, “No, she put 10 dollars on 29. When she saw 41 come in, she fainted.”
“She put 10 dollars on 29 and fainted when 41 came in.” He was the only person in the world who could understand what had happened.
He visualized her putting the last 10 dollars, along with all of her dreams, on 29, the age she’d been pretending to be. But when the wheel had finally stopped rotating, the ball landed on her real age of 41!
“I have lost all the money I brought here! If I had only bet on my real age I would have won big! I shouldn’t have pretended to be 12 years younger than my real age.” Those thoughts kept whirling around in her mind, and when she could no longer stand it she fainted.
