When the noted French author Andre Maurois visited the United States some years ago, he gave a series of lectures in French before a woman’s club.
Maurois was delighted with the response to his talks, for the women attended regularly, hung on his every word and took reams of notes.
One morning, with their usual promptness and notebooks, the women arrived in the lecture hall, only to find Maurois was not present. After waiting an hour, they got in touch with the writer’s secretary.
“Monsieur Maurois will not be there today,” the surprised secretary said. “He announced that very clearly at last week’s talk!”
