５月７日の英文添削「ジョークを英語で解釈してみましょう」への挑戦として以下のものを書いてみました。講師のどなたかに添削して頂き結果を後日投稿します。これを機会によい英文が書けるようになりたいと思います。

A bunch of counterfeiters made up a batch of $18 bills by mistake. They concluded to pass those phony bucks anyway, and decided that a good place to pass them would be in Vermont. They thought the unsophisticated farmers there would be especially gullible. So they drove up to Vermont, and stopped at the first likely-looking grocery store. One of the men bought a pack of cigarettes, and then asked the clerk, in a casual manner, if he could change an $18 bill. The clerk received the bill without the slightest of suspicion, and out of left field, asked the man if he’d like three 6$ bills or two 9$ bills.
They were not the first counterfeiters who made up the bills with the odd face amount, they realized. They had predecessors who had printed the extraordinary bills like $6 and $9, and they, too, had chosen Vermont as the place to pass the phony bucks. The unsophisticated Vermonters had accepted those phony bucks without doubt, and, surprisingly enough, those phony bills were circulating with no problems among the Vermonters.
